Pilates for beginners

What about Aerial Pilates for beginners?

Pilates is a fantastic exercise method for beginners that focuses on core strength, flexibility, and overall body conditioning. It is a low-impact form of exercise that can be modified to suit various fitness levels and abilities.

If you're a beginner looking to try Pilates, here are some key points to keep in mind:

1. Powerhouse connections or 'Core Strength': Pilates is renowned for its emphasis on 'core strength'.  The exercises target the powerhouse which includes; deep abdominal muscles, back muscles, pelvic floor and breath, helping to improve stability, posture, and overall body alignment and awareness. Building a strong core is beneficial for everyday activities and can help prevent injuries. I like to think of the core, like the core of an apple.  The deep inner part.

2. Flexibility and Mobility: Pilates incorporates a range of movements that promote flexibility and mobility. Through controlled and precise movements, you'll work on improving your joint range of motion, stretching tight muscles and areas creating tension, and enhancing overall flexibility. Increased flexibility can lead to improved posture, reduced muscle tension, and enhanced athletic performance.

3. Mind-Body Connection: Pilates encourages a strong mind-body connection. It emphasises concentration, breath control and flow and mindful movement. By focusing on the quality of movement and being present in the exercises, you can enhance body awareness, reduce stress, and improve overall mental well-being.

4. Low-Impact and Gentle on Joints: Pilates is a low-impact exercise method that is gentle on the joints, making it suitable for beginners and individuals with joint issues or injuries. The controlled movements and emphasis on great alignment help reduce the risk of strain. It's especially good if the user struggles with weight on the wrists.  The hammock allows the person to be in the air with less weight bearing on the wrists, but still being able to be in that position in a modified way.  It provides a safe and effective way to improve strength, flexibility, and overall fitness without placing excessive stress on the body.

How an aerial hammock can be beneficial for beginners in Pilates:

1. Support and Stability: Aerial hammocks provide support, making them an excellent tool for beginners. The hammock can assist in maintaining good alignment, challenge balance, and increase body awareness during Pilates exercises, helping beginners feel more supported and confident in their movements.

2. Enhanced Flexibility: Aerial hammocks allow for a great range of motion and deep stretches, which can be especially beneficial for beginners working on improving their flexibility. The hammock can provide gentle traction and support during stretching exercises, helping beginners safely explore their flexibility limits.

3. Core Activation and Connection within: Aerial hammocks require you to be centred and using core engagement and awareness  to perform various exercises. By incorporating the hammock into Pilates workouts, beginners can strengthen their core muscles and deepen their understanding of core activation, leading to improved overall strength and stability.

4. Fun and Variety: Aerial hammocks add an element of fun and variety to Pilates workouts, which can help keep beginners motivated and engaged. The unique movements and positions achievable with the hammock can make the Pilates experience really enjoyable, encouraging beginners to stick with their practice and explore new possibilities.  Play is powerful! (I could talk or write about that a lot!)
