Pilates in the air is also known as Aerial Pilates. Aerial Pilates is a unique form of practising Pilates exercises in the air by suspending the body, or parts of the body in a soft aerial silk hammock. The silk hammock is suspended close to the ground, about ½ a metre, which creates an unstable work environment that will challenge your Pilates practice.

Beginners Aerial Pilates start by practising exercises on the floor and with the assistance of the Pilates hammock, gradually advance to exercises that require full-body suspension a few inches off the floor.

Aerial Pilates draws elements and fundamentals from Pilates and aerial arts. It is not only a fun way to be active and stay fit but also a great training tool for practising good quality patterns of movement. It can also help you to facefears in a supportive environment. It’s a great way to find and create a balance of holding on and letting go, finding inner strength and gaining self-awareness, which in the air and inverted is a very unique beautiful experience.

Facing your fear in a safe and supported environment is good and often leads
to personal growth, development and a healthy dose of self-achievement. It’s
important to take small steps of progress that feel right for you along the way.

It’s important that Aerial Pilates is practiced in a safe environment, which has been certified by a professional qualified structural engineer and rigger. It’s also important that only exercises, which a qualified instructor has taught you, are practised. Exercises are taught at levels and further options are given when the participant is ready.
