What Am I Going to Teach This Week?

Why Aerial & Pilates Teachers Need More Than Exercise Ideas

It's a familiar moment for so many movement teachers.

You've finished a busy week of classes, your clients are happy, and now it's time to plan the next one.

You open your notebook, look through your saved videos and think…

Ohhh, what am I going to teach THIS week?

The funny thing is, you probably already know plenty of exercises.

So why does planning sometimes feel so difficult?

Having exercises isn't the same as having a syllabus

An exercise is one small part of the bigger picture.

A syllabus helps us understand how movements connect, how skills develop and how to build meaningful learning experiences.

Without that foundation, it's easy to fall into the habit of collecting more and more ideas.

We see a lovely sequence online, save it for later and try to fit it into a class.

But does it really serve the people we're teaching?

Does it connect to what they've already learned?

And where are we taking them next?

These are the questions that interest me most.

Structure and creativity can work together

Sometimes teachers worry that following a syllabus will make their classes predictable.

I see it differently.

When we truly understand the foundations, we have more freedom to explore.

We can change the intention of a movement, adjust the challenge, explore different transitions or help someone discover a connection they hadn't noticed before.

The syllabus becomes our starting point rather than our limitation.

That's how structure can support creativity.

The Air Control Pilates® approach

Having taught Pilates for over 23 years and worked in aerial movement for many years too, I've always been fascinated by the details.

How does a movement feel?

Why does one person find it easy while another struggles?

What can we change to help someone understand it?

And how can we bring everything together with flow, precision, grace and ease?

These questions are at the heart of the Air Control Pilates® Syllabus.

I want teachers to develop confidence in what they're teaching, but also the curiosity to keep exploring.

Because good teaching isn't simply about knowing what comes next.

It's about understanding WHY.

Less searching, more discovering

The next time you're struggling to plan a class, try looking at the movements you already know.

What could you explore more deeply?

What connections could you develop?

What might your clients need to understand before progressing?

Sometimes the most exciting new ideas are hiding inside the familiar ones.

It's not about MORE… it's about DEEPER
