 The Magic of Lift: Why Aerial Pilates is More Than Just Exercise

Discover the joy of Aerial Pilates — where strength, playfulness, and connection come together in the hammock for a workout that lifts your body and your spirit.

There’s a special kind of magic that happens in an Aerial Pilates session. It’s not just the movement, the hammock, or the workout — it’s that moment when someone realises, “Wait… I can do that?!”

You can see it in their eyes, they light up!

It might be a first-time student tentatively climbing into the hammock, or a regular who suddenly gets a move they’ve been working on for weeks. You can see it in their eyes, they light up!  A huge smile breaks across their face. Sometimes there’s a laugh, sometimes even a little happy squeal. That’s the magic moment — and it’s why I love teaching Aerial Pilates.

It’s Not About Being Perfect

Throught my teachings and in our Air Teachers classes around the world, perfection isn’t ever the goal. You don’t need to be the most flexible, the strongest, or the most coordinated person. I never was. Aerial Pilates is about feeling supported and free while you move. The hammock cradles your body, helping you explore your range of motion in ways that feel playful, not punishing or judgemental, by yourself or anyone else.

The magic of suspension means you can work your body and mind deeply without putting excess strain on your joints. It’s a safe, low-impact way to strengthen, stretch, and align your body — all while feeling weightless and stressfree.

 

The Joy of Connection

For me, Aerial Pilates is as much about connection as it is about movement.

  • Connection to your body — noticing how it feels, learning what it can do, and celebrating small wins along the way.

  • Connection to your mind — letting go of stress, focusing on the present moment, and finding a sense of lightness that lasts long after a class or session ends.

  • Connection to others — sharing laughs, encouragement, and a sense of community with people who are on their own journeys of movement and discovery.

Whether I’m teaching, training other instructors, or learning something new myself, these moments of connection are what keep me coming back to the hammock.  Wherever I am - mentally or physically.
